It was the midnight of July 17, 2010. The army troops stormed the villages of Shastrawela, Ragamwela, Egodayaya, Horekanda and Ulpassa, which are the traditional residences of the Panamanian people, attacked the people, chased them away and destroyed the houses and property. They attacked the monks in the temple and destroyed the Elavadama temple, the Buddha statue and set it on fire. The Bodhi was cut down and burnt. The lands were later acquired by the Air Force and the Navy. The amount of land thus acquired is 1220 acres. 480 acres of it is the traditional land of the Panamanian people. The other 840 acres are in lush forest belonging to the Department of Forest Conservation.

At present, despite receiving cabinet decisions and court orders, the officials are using the army to seize these lands to put up hotels for the country’s leaders and businessmen without demarcating anything. Even today, people of 350 farming families are displaced and are mixing their anger and pain with tears. It has been 5 years since the cabinet decision to reassign all these lands to them. But even today they are displaced in their native land.

A monk who fights fearlessly even today for these landless farming families. It is Panama Chandraratne Thero. He rebuilt the Valukarama temple which he demolished and is working there. For the sake of these innocent people, they have left the temple, which has all its facilities, and have come to settle in the midst of difficulties.

Also, Maradana The Centre for Society and Religion, which is supporting these farming families and Panama Chandraratne Thero to bring justice to the people for the land robbery of Panama, recently held a discussion with the Panamanian farmers regarding the future work, and for that, the executive director of the Maradana Society and the Peaceful Center, representing the Maradana Society and the Peaceful Center, Honorable Rohan Silva Father also participated.

ඒ 2010 වසරේ ජූලි මස 17 වන දින මධ්‍යම රාත‍්‍රියයි. පානම ජනතාවගේ පාරම්පරික වාසභූමි වන ශාස්ත‍්‍රවෙල, රාගම්වෙල, එගොඩයාය, හොරේකන්ද, උල්පස්ස යන ගම්මානවලට කඩාවැදුණු හමුදා භටයෝ ජනතාවට පහර දී ඔවුන් පලවා හැරියෝයග නිවාස සහ දේපළ ගිනි තබා විනාශ කළෝය. පන්සලේ සිටි හික්ෂුන් වහන්සේට පහර දී එළවාදමා පන්සල, බුදු පිළිමය කඩා දමා ගිනිතබා විනාශ කළහ. බෝධිය කපා දමා පුච්චා දැමූහ. පසුව එම ඉඩම් ගුවන් හමුදාව සහ නාවික හමුදාව විසින් අත්පත් කර ගන්නා ලදි. එසේ අත්පත් කරගත් ඉඩම් ප‍්‍රමාණය අක්කර 1220කි. එයින් අක්කර 480ක් පානම ජනතාවගේ පාරම්පරික ඉඩම්ය. අනෙක් අක්කර 840 වන සංරක්ෂණ දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවට අයත් සශ‍්‍රීක වනාන්තරයවේ.

මේ වන විට කැබිනට් තීරණ හා අධිකරණ නියෝග ලැබුණද එ් කිසිවක් මායිම් නොකරම නිලධාරීන් රටේ නායකයින්ට හා ව්‍යාපාරිකයින්ට හෝටල් දැමීම සදහා මෙම ඉඩම් හමුදාව යොදවා බලෙන් අත්පත්කරගෙන සිටියි. අදද ගොවි පවුල් 350ක ජනතාවක් අවතැන් වී කෝපය සහ වේදනාව කඳුළුවලට මුසුකරමින් සිිටී. ඔවුන්ට මෙම ඉඩම් සියල්ල නැවත පැවරීමට කැබිනට් තීරණය ලැබී අදට වසර 05කි. නමුත් අදටත් ඔවුන් තම උපන් භූමියේම අවතැන් වී ඇත. මෙම ඉඩම් අහිමි ගොවි පවුල් වෙනුවෙන් අදද නොබියව සටන් කරන භික්ෂුවකි. එ් පානම චන්ද‍්‍රරත්න හිමියන්ය. උන්වහන්සේ කඩා බිද දැමූ වාලුකාරාම පන්සල නැවත ඉදිකර එහි වැඩ සිටිති. මේ අහිංසක ජනතාව වෙනුවෙන් තමන්ගේ සියළු පහසුකම් ඇති මහ පන්සලද අතහැර පැමිණ දුෂ්කරතා මැද පදිංචි වී සිටිති. එසේම මේ ගොවි පවුල්වලට හා පානම චන්ද‍්‍රරත්න හිමියන්ට ශක්තියක් වෙමින් පානම ඉඩම් මංකොල්ලය වෙනුවෙන් ජනතාවට යුක්තිය ඉටුකරදීමට සහාය වන මරදාන සමාජය හා සාමයික කේන්ද‍්‍රය පසුගියදා පානම ගොවීන් හා මෙහි ඉදිරි කටයුතු සම්බව්ධව සාකච්ඡුා කළ අතර එ් සදහා මරදාන සමාජය හා සාමයික කේ්න්ද‍්‍රය නියෝජනය කරමින් එහි විධායක අධ්‍යක්ෂ ගරු රොහාන් සිල්වා පියතුමාද සහබාගී විය.
